**Job Summary**

This position provides highly responsible and skilled administrative support to the Faculty Coordinator and Project manager of the Michigan Humanities Collaboratory. The Michigan Humanities Collaboratory is a relatively new initiative of the Provost's office offering research funding to humanities faculty working on collaborative projects. **Exercising a high level of initiative with an ability to handle a wide variety of diverse, hands-on tasks with a friendly, high degree of customer services are key characteristics of a successful candidate for this position. We are seeking a can-do, self-starter and team player to join our team.**


**General Administrative Support 50%**

+ Provide administrative support to the Faculty Coordinator and Project Manager (schedule meetings and Collaboratory space, draft correspondence, etc...).

+ Coordinate 5x5 applications, seed grant proposal, and project proposal process. Update applications forms as needed. Organize and gather applications, coordinate proposal review with Steering Committee members and external evaluators.

+ Research and identify an efficient application process, make recommendations and implement any new processes identified.

+ Order office supplies and equipment as needed, ensure Collaboratory space is maintained and meets the needs of the teams, follow up on facilities needs and equipment orders.

+ Respond to inquiries from faculty and the university community at large as needed and appropriate.

+ Staff Collaboratory space, provide support to faculty teams as needed and directed.

+ Provide support to faculty teams with public dissemination stage of projects.

+ Plan and organize workshops, project recruitment activities, meetings and other events as needed.

+ Assist with travel arrangements and reimbursements for team related research and expenses.

+ Take minutes at Steering Committee meetings.

+ Assist Faculty Coordinator and Project Manager with special projects as needed and assigned (i.e. research status of collaborative team research in the humanities at R1 institutions across the nation).

**Website/Publicity 40%**

+ Compose, coordinate and disseminate bi-weekly MailChimp newsletter to constituencies and regular communication to Collaboratory teams.

+ Work with the MLB-Thayer Events Communication Team to develop publicity for workshops and general publicity for the collaboratory. Ensure proposal deadlines, workshops and public dissemination events are extensively publicized through various means such as websites, posters, emails, etc...

+ Update and maintain MailChimp subscriber lists and MCommunity email groups.

+ Implement the team developed marketing/publicity plan for raising awareness and visibility of the Collaboratory across campus.

+ Proactively review and analyze website for layout and content. Recommend changes and implement team determined changes.

+ Actively and regularly update website as needed and appropriate; include current trends in collaborative work nationally, highlight collaborative work on campus and research additions/enhancements to asset mapping (resources) section of the website.

+ Research grant opportunities for scholars in the humanities; post links and resource information on website.

**Human Resources 10%**

+ Act as liaison between the unit and LSA HR Shared Services. Coordinate hiring of research assistants and GSRA's with Collaboratory teams. Coordinate unit human resource needs.

+ Hire and supervise work study student as needed.

**Required Qualifications***

Demonstrated knowledge and interest in the humanities is required. Three to five years of progressively responsible administrative experience providing general and logistical support in an academic environment is required. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and feel comfortable communicating to personnel at all levels of the organiztion including highly esteemed faculty, administration in the Provost's and Dean's Offices, graduate and undergraduate students and colleagues across various schools and colleges. Prior experience taking meeting minutes and composing high level correspondence is required; applicants selected for an interview will be required to submit a writing sample with a preference for meeting minutes and high level correspondence. We require a candidate with outstanding interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to customer service and support of the goals of faculty research and the collaboratory mission. An extremely high level of organizational skills with acute and demonstrated attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and balance multiple projects simultaneously are absolutely critical to success in this position. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate initiative to figure out solutions and resources as well as work independently in a possible solitary environment. Advance knowledge of and experience utilizing MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Google docs, sheets, and other Google based tools. At least one year experience planning highly visible events is required with the physical ability to set up for events (move chairs, tables, set up catering, move items across campus or push a cart across campus, etc.).

**Desired Qualifications***

Bachelor's degree in a humanities field and 5+ years of progressively responsible administrative experience with knowledge of University and College of LSA policies and procedures. A motivated candidate who is excited to provide support to a dynamic unit through energy and enthusiasm for the humanities and research. Prior experience related to human rescources/staff hiring at the University of Michigan is highly preferred. Some experience with U-M financial systems within Wolverine Access and Concur Experience supporting, updating and strategically planning the content of a website, especially utilizing Word Press is highly preferred. Experience creating newsletters and managing subscriber lists in MailChimp is beneficial as well as experience using MBox along with some graphic design knowledge/experience.

**Additional Information**

**PLEASE NOTE:** This position is 50% (20 hrs per week), with flexiblity required for the exact work schedule in any given week. Generally we would prefer the candidate to work four, 5-hour days per week. Some additional hours may be required from time to time (no more than 4-6 weeks total in a year; scattered throughout the year). The salary range is $45,000-$55,000 full-time rate, with a compensation range of $22,500-$27,500. A higher salary may be possible for an exceptionally qualified candidate.
