Location: Beyster Bldg., North Campus

Schedule: 20 hours per week, schedule to be determined in consultation with supervisor.

Salary range reflects 100% effort, position is 50%

**Job Summary**

This position will assist the CSE Communications Manager in promoting the department and with the marketing and communications of the department to its internal and external audiences.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Communications Manager and will develop a range of articles, stories, and collateral material for publication on the web, via social media social media, and in other electronic and printed formats.

Some activities will require occasional weekend and evening hours.


+ Write articles and news stories that highlight the impact of research, activities, and accomplishments of faculty, students, student and other groups, alumni, and the division. Proactively interview and engage with article subjects as needed.

+ Edit content for style and organization; proofread for typographical errors; repurpose and summarize material for use across a variety of communications channels, including websites, social channels, and print.

+ Develop, maintain, and refresh content on the Division's websites.

+ Develop a social media strategy and establish best practices for social media engagement.

+ Design and produce communications collateral (e.g., brochures, fact sheets, posters, newsletters, reports, presentations, and other promotional items as needed) that effectively describe and promote the Computer Science and Engineering Division.

+ Collaborate with other communicators in the College of Engineering and across campus as needed, including the college's central Communications and Marketing team.

+ Collaborate with other CSE staff to coordinate activities such as prominent lectures and special events.

+ Take photographs at Division events.

+ May require coordination of assigned tasks with other staff members involved in process.

+ Other duties as assigned

**Required Qualifications***

+ Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education

+ 1-2 years of experience in the areas of marketing and communications

+ Strong writing, editing, and interviewing skills

+ Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team

+ Ability to manage competing deadlines

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (writing and speaking)

+ Experience with publishing tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, the Google suite of tools, Wordpress

+ A high degree of familiarity with social media platforms, tools, and best practices.

**Desired Qualifications***

+ Familiarity with emerging web technologies and their applications in an academic setting

+ Ability to shoot and/or edit video

+ Knowledge of printing and preprint processes

+ Knowledge of College of Engineering and University of Michigan policies and procedures.
